FAQs

What can I expect from our initial session?

Our first session will lay the foundation for our work together. In the initial session, we have the opportunity to get to know each other a bit better, to discuss what you hope to get out of our work together, and to determine a good starting place when it comes to working towards achieving those goals. The first session may involve more questions regarding your history, and what brought you to seek the support of a dietitian, so that I can better understand your desires and your concerns.

Will you help me lose weight?

I currently practice from a non-diet, Health at Every Size® approach, and thus I will not discuss numbers or emphasize weight loss as the primary focus of our work together. Instead, I will help you come up with non-number/weight focused ways in which we can work towards achieving your goals, including: building intuitive eating skills, improving body image, and replacing eating disorder/disordered eating behaviors with behaviors that promote a life-enhancing relationship with food. We may also explore additional, non-food related areas of your life that are impacting your health and well being. As a result, your weight may increase, decrease, or stay the same throughout our work together, however, your relationship with food and your body will improve.

How long are the initial and follow up sessions, respectively?

The initial session is typically 75 minutes, and follow up sessions are either 50 minutes (full session), or 30 minutes (half session). I also provide phone check-in sessions, which are 15 minutes.

Are you currently seeing people via telehealth, or are your sessions in person?

I am currently using a hybrid system. I am seeing people who prefer in-person sessions in one of my two office locations (Highland Park or Somerville), and I am seeing those who prefer sessions from the comfort of their own home via telehealth (Doxy.me). I can also do phone sessions if that is the preferred form of communication.

Do you take insurance?

I am not currently accepting any insurance, however I am able to provide you with a superbill, which contains all of the information that your insurance company will need to reimburse you for out of network benefits. This means that you will pay for the session up front, and can use the receipt (superbill) provided to submit to your insurance company for future reimbursement.
